Perhaps, the most annoying issue for you to live in London is gaining an accomodation. Land cost in London is extremely high, although it depends on the region. You have to pay at least $1,000 per month for a flat if you are alone. Most flats cost you more than $2,000 per month.
Room sharing is another option. Renting a room from the host family for a while is also common. Several sites, including Airbnb as I wrote, are aiding the matching between hosts and guests.

However, room sharing has some disadvantages. You have to adhere some rules regulated in the house. You would be annoyed in the case your flatmates are troublesome. In general, your daily life will be inflexible.
Therefore, I decided to live in a shared house only during seeking a preferred accommodation. It was difficult for me to determine the accommodation before I arrive in London. I contacted a person who offers a room in London to make a contract of temporal stay. It took about $80 per day.
After getting here, I began to seek a flat.
In London, there are some types of accommodation. Flat is similar to apartment house in Japan. You usually use kitchen and bathroom on your own in addition to bedrooms and living rooms. The bills (electricity, gas, water, and council tax) are not included in the accommodation fee in most cases. In contrast, a studio means only one room equipped with kitchen. You may use the toilet not shared with others. Studios are inexpensive than flats.
There are several sites in which you can look through many houses to rent. Gumtree, Zoopla, and Rightmove are available. However, it is quite frequently happened you cannot get contacted with the provider via these sites. The examples shown on these sites are not reliable at all. The provider maybe recommend another flat, usually more expensive, in the case of successful contact.
